Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is native to the Mediterranean region. The largest part of the global lavender production comes from Provence, in Southern France. Lavender is widely known since ancient times due to its soothing properties. Lavender’s main component is its essential oil. Subsequently, the main plant volume is used for essential oil production. The lavender essential oil was always used in pharmaceutics, perfumery, cosmetics industry and various fields of everyday life. According to folk tales, lavender, and consequently its essential oil, was used therapeutically due to its antibacterial and healing properties.
